Busy day for fire-rescue
At about 12:15 p.m. Friday (Oct. 2), the Kelowna Fire Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting that a person was stuck on the hill side in Canyon Falls Park, which is located in the Crawford area of Kelowna.
The first arriving officer did a scene assessment and based on the conditions and location of the person, it was deemed a technical rescue would be required.
The seven member team was dispatched to the location. Team members were able to climb up to the patient, put him in a harness and lower him to a trail below the first water fall.
The male was not injured and able to walk out with KFD members.
KFD is reminding hikers to stay on marked trails only.
Structure Fire
At approximately 3:00 p.m. Oct. 2, the Kelowna Fire Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a house on fire in the 1600 block of Morrison Road in the Rutland area.
The first arriving officer reported smoke coming from an open door in the carport and also smoke showing from the soffits. An attack crew was sent in and located a fire in the basement of the 1.5 story home.
The fire was quickly extinguished. There was no one in the home at the time of the fire. The home was vacant.
The fire is deemed suspicious in nature and will be investigated by both RCMP and KFD investigators.
