Book gives families alternative to in-person trick-or-treating
With Halloween around the corner in the midst of a pandemic, many families are looking for a fun alternative to trick-or-treating during the COVID pandemic.
Two B.C. moms have come to the rescue with a new book that offers kids a way to still get dressed up in their costumes, rake in lots of candy, all while in the comfort of their homes.
“Some families might prefer to keep the fun indoors with a spooky candy hunt instead of/or in addition to trick-or-treating. Perhaps not as many houses will be handing out candy this year either so this is something extra the kids could do,” said Lori Russell, co-author of Loofie Saves Halloween.
Loofie Saves Halloween is an interactive children’s book that will have kids playing eye spy to look for candy in the pictures, and around their own home. “Think Easter Bunny meets that little guy who hangs out on a shelf and Christmas time,” said Lu Lee Kombe, Co-Author and Illustrator of Loofie Saves Halloween. “The idea is that parents read the book to their child prior to Halloween and then have a spooky candy hunt with our main character, Loofie the Candy Monster.”
“We have felt the stress of trying to plan a safe Halloween for our little ones, and we now other parents are also in this situation. We want to make sure every child can celebrate Halloween 2020 while staying safe and healthy, especially those that are immunocompromised and cannot trick-or-treat,” Russell continued. “This book is sure to start a new tradition in your house.”
