Crews attend to a fire….and a rescue
West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to the 3800 block of Glenrosa Road to a technical rescue for a patient out hunting that had injured a lower body extremity.
The patient was 5 km’s along the Powerline Road which made for challenging access due to the recent early season snow.
“Of concern was reaching the patient prior to the onset of hypothermia. The patient was dressed for the elements and had access to 911 via cell phone coverage which assisted WKFR in locating the quickest route to access the patient for extrication,” said assistant fire chief Chad Gartrell.
Once back down to Glenrosa Road, WKFR handed the patient off to BC Ambulance for advanced care and transport to KGH.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue also responded to the 2700 block of Shannon Lake Road overnight for a fully involved residential structure fire.
The first crew found advanced fire conditions and downed power lines upon arrival and deemed it a defensive fire operation. It was determined this was an abandoned structure with no one living there at this time.
“This incident is suspicious in nature and has been transferred by WKFR to RCMP for further investigation. Due to the extensive damage the cause is currently undetermined, said Chad Gartrell, assistant fire chief.
