New RCMP leader promising new vision of leadership
The new officer in charge of the Kelowna’s RCMP detachment is making history.
Superintendent Kara Triance is the first woman to hold the post.
She was also born and raised in Kelowna.
Triance is taking over for Supt. Brent Mundle, who was suddenly transferred out of the post in June.
Triance says her goal is for a new vision of leadership, which will include developing community partnerships, establishing high expectations of professional conduct within her ranks and making sure residents feel safe in their community.
She said the partnerships will help deal with challenges including homelessness, substance abuse, mental health and poverty.
Triance is taking over a detachment facing several issues directed at current and former officers, including assault, breach of trust and various sexual offences.
The city’s new top cop has 20 years of experience in policing, and most recently was the officer in charge with the Sea to Sky detachment.
