New outbreak at long-term care home in Kelowna
It is an unfortunate first for care homes in Interior Health.
Two cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed at the Mountainview Village care home in Kelowna, including one resident.
It’s the first time a resident of a care home in the Interior Health (IH) region has contracted COVID-19. All other care home outbreaks in the IH region have involved staff members.
The outbreak applies to both east and west units on the second floor at the facility.
“Staff members in close contact with these individuals are in self-isolation and monitoring for symptoms. IH will continue to monitor the situation, while implementing additional infection control and preventive measures,” a news release from IH stated.
Mountainview Village, on KLO Road, is privately owned and operated with 90 publicly funded long-term care beds.
