Music to the ears of council
Kelowna council likes the sound of a Central Okanagan Music Strategy project to support the growth and sustainability of the local music industry
Council has endorsed the project that is being led by Creative Okanagan, a local nonprofit organization that creates accessible performing arts opportunities that connect audiences with artists in the Okanagan.
Among the highlights are the need for spaces such as a purpose-built venue, as well as spaces that are affordable and accessible for a wide range of activities (e.g., education, jamming, etc.).
Other highlights from Kelowna council’s March 1 meeting:
Thomson Flats
Council did not support the draft Thomson Flats Area Structure Plan for a new proposed hillside development area covering 255 hectares at the southern boundary of the city, between Chute Lake Road to the west, and Bellevue Creek to the east.
The proposal was for 1,200 homes south and east of the existing Upper Mission and Kettle Valley neighbourhoods.
Tourism Kelowna update
Council heard an update from Tourism Kelowna around the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its budget and plans to work with the city on a Tourism Master Plan, providing long-term direction for both residents and visitors.
