He invented one of the most universal items in human history.
Lou Ottens passed away, at the age of 94.
While working at Philips back in the ’50s and ’60s, he grew tired of the clunkiness of the old reel-to-reel format for music, so he came up with the idea for the cassette.
“Smaller than a pack of cigarettes!”
The cassette boom of the ’70s and ’80s followed, and it’s estimated there have been over 100 billion tapes sold!
