B.C. records highest daily Covid case count in over three months

B.C.’s daily COVID-19 case count for Thursday (Mar. 25) was the highest in nearly four months.

In her daily written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 800 new cases of COVID-19, the most since the province had 834 new cases on December 2, 2020.

Fifty of the new cases were found in Interior Health.

There have now been 94,769 cases of the virus found in B.C., spread out as follows:

22,470 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 264)
55,173 — Fraser Health (up by 381)
3,041 — Island Health (up by 45)
8,215 — Interior Health (up by 50)
5,699 — Northern Health (up by 58)
171 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 2)

There are 5,856 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Thursday, up by 283 from Wednesday. Three-hundred-six people are in hospital, with 79 in intensive care.

Five more people have died of the virus, increasing the provincial death toll to 1,446.

Health officials have identified 191 new confirmed cases of variants of concern, for a total of 1,772 variant cases in B.C. Two-hundred-fifteen are still active.

There are 9,964 people under active public health monitoring because they have been directly exposed to COVID-19.

A total of 87,351 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 92 per cent of all recorded cases.

The province has now delivered 610,671 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
