Lake Country icon destroyed in early morning fire
It was put up as a sign in the 1980’s for Holiday Park Resort, and anyone traveling Highway 97 would quickly recognize the large blue and white boat at the intersection of Commonwealth Road.
The boat is no more, after an early morning fire destroyed it.
The Lake Country Fire Department was first on scene around 1:30 am Thursday and reported the boat was fully involved.
“Crews deployed hose lines to suppress the fire. There were no hydrants in the area so water had to be shuttled to the scene with water Tenders. The boat collapsed during the fire, so an excavator was brought in to help with extinguishing the fire,” Shayne Kiehlbauch, Platoon Captain Kelowna Fire Department said.
A cause is under investigation.
Lake Country Fire Department responded with an engine, pumper, tender, ladder and two command vehicles. Kelowna Fire Department sent one Engine, Tender and command vehicle with seven members.
