B.C. Covid update: 1,068 new cases, with 106 in Interior
B.C. is reporting 1,068 new Covid-19 cases, the third highest total since the pandemic started.
It raises the overall total to 105,988 cases.
Of the new cases, 352 are in Vancouver Coastal Health, 492 in Fraser Health, 73 in Island Health, 106 in Interior Health, 43 in Northern Health, and two with people who normally reside outside Canada.
Currently 328 people are in hospital with Covid-19, with 96 in critical care.
There have been three more deaths, two in Vancouver Coastal, and the other in Island Health.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 207 confirmed, new variant cases, with all but one in Vancouver Coastal, and the other in Fraser Health. There have been 3,766 variant cases, with 366 active cases.
She said most of the cases are the U.K. strain, but the Brazil variant (P1) has been increasing in last few weeks, with 877 confirmed cases, and 106 active.
To date, 912,056 doses of Covid vaccines have been administered — amounting to 19.2 per cent of B.C.’s 4.2 million eligible adults — with 87,474 second doses.
Henry said the use of AstraZeneca vaccine is still on hold for people 55 and under as an international review continues.
