Crews comb area for missing senior with dementia
A search for a missing senior ended successfully in Kelowna.
Central Okanagan Search and Rescue was called out by RCMP around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday to look for a 72-year-old woman with dementia who went missing on a walk between Grenfell Road and Rosemead Avenue.
Fourteen search volunteers formed into two ground teams and two e-bike teams and scoured four areas between Lakeshore and Gordon from Cameron Park to Highway 97.
Around 11:20 p.m. a ground team spotted the subject in a locked parking garage of one of the apartment buildings on Buckland.
“We were able to rouse an apartment tenant who opened the parking garage gate and we were able to hand off our subject to her family and the RCMP,” a news release from COSAR stated.
So far in 2021, COSAR has responded to 18 tasks, which is slightly above the group’s average for this time of year.
