Work on new roundabout will impact traffic
Beginning Monday, April 19, the City of West Kelowna will begin work on the Gellatly-Carrington intersection for construction of new roundabout. The intersection will be closed to vehicle traffic weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for approximately 10 weeks.
Detours will be in place for motorists, while pedestrian access will be maintained. Cyclists are encouraged to follow posted detours or dismount and use the sidewalk through the construction zone. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to proceed through the detour and pedestrian routes with caution.
The Gellatly-Carrington intersection will be open to the public evenings, weekends and statutory holidays with the possibility of some weekend work to shorten the closure timeframe. Transit service will continue in this area, but with amended schedules. Detours are along arterial roads, meaning no impacts on residential streets.
All area businesses will remain open and the city has placed digital signage along Highway 97 to help motorists with navigation to these destinations. Emergency vehicle and alternate business access will be maintained at all times.
This $1.32 million intersection improvement project is funded in part by Road Development Cost Charges. The entire project is expected to be complete in September.
