UPDATE: Man arrested after woman’s death released without charge
A man taken into custody in connection with a Shuswap woman’s death, has been released without charge.
The RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit and BC Coroners Service continue their parallel investigations into the death of the 60-year-old woman Tuesday night.
On April 27 around 11:30 p.m., RCMP officers from Chase were dispatched to a residence in the 8600-block of Holding Road near Adams Lake, and found a dead woman inside the home.
“Investigators were back on site earlier today, continuing their examination of the Holding Road property. That scene, just south of Adams Lake, has been released by authorities and is no longer being secured by police,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the BC RCMP in the Southeast District, said. “The adult man, arrested by front line officers at the scene, has now been released from police custody. He was released unconditionally without charge and the investigation is continuing.”
O’Donaghey said police will continue to treat the death as suspicious such until proven otherwise.
“RCMP and the BC Coroners Service will be working diligently to officially classify the woman’s death as they advance their concurrent investigations,” he said.

April 28: RCMP investigates woman’s death
RCMP are investigating the suspicious dearth of a woman in the Shuswap.
On Tuesday April 27 around 11:30 p.m., Chase RCMP officers were dispatched to a residence in the 8600-block of Holding Road near Adams Lake. Once on scene, first responders found a deceased woman inside the home.
“An adult male was taken into police custody without incident, by front line RCMP officers at the scene,” S/Sgt. Scott Aschenbrenner, Unit Commander of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, stated. “Although a full determination surrounding criminality has not yet been made, the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are being considered suspicious in nature at this time.”
The victim has been identified as a 60-year-old woman. The man taken into police custody was well known to the deceased, and the RCMP do not believe there is any risk to the general public.
The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the death.
