Council to consider mixed-use project on campground site
Stober Group has released updated images for the 3340 Lakeshore/Gyro Beach project in Kelowna in advance of next week’s public information meeting and city council’s consideration of the development permit application.
The Kelowna-based company said application for development of the 4.4-acre Willow Creek Campground site was originally made in June 2019 and has been redesigned to reflect the feedback received by the Stober Group through an extensive public consultation process with the community over the past two years.
“The redesigned project that we are proposing is a mixed-use design that achieves city urban centre development objectives and also responds to the significant amount of input that we received from the community,” Bob Dagenais, Stober Group’s director of development, said.
The plans for the mixed-use project include 345 new homes atop a podium that fully contains the concealed parking structure. The parking is wrapped with space for a mix of retail and residential uses and ground floor space that features expansive, landscaped public sidewalks, corner plazas, cafés and restaurant with patios.

Lanfranco Road will be extended from Lakeshore Road to Watt Road, providing a new link to the lake, and Fascieux Creek will be ‘daylighted’ as part of the development of a linear park on the new Lanfranco corridor as part of the City’s parks initiative.
The company said Alternative Transportation Corridor will also be extended from Cedar Avenue, along Walnut Street and Watt Road — connecting the neighbourhood to the north to Gyro Beach. The project’s Watt Road frontage will be upgraded with curb, gutter and sidewalks on the east side.
Rezoning approval was granted last fall, and Kelowna council is now considering the building form and character, including a height variance request.
“Stober has held this property for many decades and the one thing that hasn’t changed in all that time is how much people love this neighbourhood and increasingly want to live, work and play here,” Dagenais added.
Construction and sales will begin once the project is approved.
