Occupants flee structure fire
A shed fire extended to a Kelowna home this morning, causing significant damage.
The Kelowna Fire Department received a number of 911 calls about a shed on fire at the rear of residence in the 800 block of Hollydell Road around 8:50 a.m. May 27.
The first arriving officer reported heavy flame and smoke coming from the rear of a duplex, with the occupants evacuating.
“The flames had already extended to the roof of the carport, a large cedar hedge and an SUV that was parked in the carport. An attack line was deployed to control the fire from the exterior while another team entered the interior,” John Kelly, platoon captain, said
Kelly said the fire was quickly knocked down but there was significant damage to the rear of the structure.
“The interior of the structure also suffered fire, water and smoke damage thus rendering the home uninhabitable. One male occupant suffered smoke inhalation and one male suffered a burn to his foot,” Kelly added.
The occupants were assessed and treated by ambulance paramedics, and they are now in the care of Emergency Support Services.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation by the fire department.
