Minimal growth on fire burning south of Coquihalla Connector
The BC Wildfire Service says fire behaviour on the Brenda Creek Fire was elevated Monday afternoon due to increased winds, but perimeter growth was minimal.
The fire, south of the Okanagan Connector Highway 97C, and approximately 40 kilometers from West Kelowna, is estimated at 450 hectares and remains out of control.
An evacuation alert continues within a portion of the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area of the Regional District of Central Okanagan affecting approximately 18 properties, three recreational campsites and Crown land in the RDCO electoral area.
An online map showing the alert area is available at cordemergency.ca/map. This area is also affected by a BC Wildfire Area Restriction Order.
Structural firefighters and equipment from Kelowna, West Kelowna, Peachland and North Westside fire departments continue providing support to the Wildfire Service. The local departments are extinguishing hot spots and patrolling along the BC Hydro transmission line through the wildfire area.
Hydro continues to actively monitor its transmission line and infrastructure through the Brenda Creek wildfire area. Crews remain on standby and ready to respond at a moment’s notice.
