Interior records one COVID-19 death, 539 new cases
COVID-19 has now been linked to 311 deaths in the Interior, as one new death was identified in the region Thursday.
It was one of the 13 fatalities across the province. To date, a total of 2,588 British Columbians have died due to the virus.
The Interior’s active case count rose to 7,669 Thursday as 539 new cases were identified in the region.
The cases were part of 2,033 recorded across B.C., bringing the provincial active case count to 29,556.
The number of British Columbians hospitalized with COVID-19 rose to 977 Thursday, with 141 of those patients in intensive care.
B.C.’s vaccination rate for eligible recipients aged five and over was recorded at 89.7 per cent for first doses and 83.7 per cent for second doses.
Additionally, 92.6 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and over and 93 per cent of B.C. adults have received their first dose of a vaccine. The second dose rates were recorded at 90 per cent for the 12 and over group and 90.4 per cent for the adult population, while the third dose rates were recorded at 43 per cent and 46 per cent.
Two health-care facility outbreaks were recorded on the island, though the outbreak at Kelowna General Hospital was declared over. As of Thursday, there were 62 facilities considered active outbreak sites, including 12 in the Interior.
