Interior sees another jump in active COVID-19 cases
Interior Health has seen another influx of COVID-19 cases.
The health authority reported 406 new cases Tuesday, bringing the active case count to 7,949 (increase of 360 from Monday).
The new cases were part of 1,236 recorded across B.C. The provincial active case count was recorded at 28,302.
The number of British Columbians hospitalized with COVID-19 decreased to 1,035 Tuesday (down by 13), though the number of patients in intensive care rose to 139.
Nine deaths, all located within the Fraser Health region, were reported Tuesday, bringing the provincial COVID-19 death toll to 2,625.
As of Tuesday, 89.9 per cent of British Columbians aged five and older had received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 84 per cent had received both jabs.
The Ministry of Health notes that 92.7 per cent of residents aged 12 and over and 93.1 per cent of adult British Columbians have received their first dose of a vaccine. The second dose rates were recorded at 90.1 per cent for the 12 and over group and 90.5 per cent for the adult population, while the third dose rates were recorded at 46.4 per cent and 49.7 per cent.
The province noted that the unvaccinated accounted for 20.4 per cent of new cases between Jan. 24 and 30, while the fully vaccinated accounted for 74.7 per cent of cases.
Additionally, the unvaccinated made up 26.3 per cent of hospitalizations between Jan. 17 and 30, while 69.2 per cent of patients were fully vaccinated.
There were two new health-care facilities added to the outbreak list Tuesday, though they were offset by five being declared over. As of Tuesday there were 55 active outbreaks at health care facilities in B.C., including 19 in the Interior.
