COVID-19 update: 17 deaths in B.C., hospitalizations decrease
COVID-19-related hospitalizations are down in British Columbia, which may be another indication that the numbers associated with the Omicron variant have peaked.
The province reported 803 people in hospital with the virus Monday (down 43 from Friday), with 119 in intensive care (decrease of 17).
Since Friday, 17 more people have died of COVID-19, raising the overall death toll to 2,764. Nine of the deaths were in Interior Health, with three in Vancouver Coastal, two each in Northern and Island Health and one in Fraser Health.
Over the three days, B.C. recorded 2,701 new cases of COVID-19, including 1,151 on Saturday, 883 on Sunday and 667 today.
The new cases include:
* Interior Health: 676
* Fraser Health: 783
* Vancouver Coastal Health: 495
* Northern Health: 324
* Island Health: 423
There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks.
The outbreaks at George Derby Centre (Fraser Health), Westview Place, Hamlets at Penticton, Cottonwoods Care Centre, McKinney Place, Gillis House, Village by the Station and Spring Valley Care Centre (Interior Health) have been declared over, for a total of 39 facilities with ongoing outbreaks.
As of today, 90.4 per cent of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first vaccine dose, 85.3 per cent have had two doses, and 52.7 per cent of residents 12 and older have received three shots.
