Man drowns in Okanagan Lake
A 57-year-old man from the Lower Mainland is the latest drowning victim in the Okanagan.
Police say the man had been swimming with friends and family on Monday afternoon (Aug. 8) in Okanagan Lake near Peachland off 6th Street and Beach Avenue when he jumped into the water on his own, and never resurfaced.
He was noticed missing about 30 minutes later and lifeguards were able to locate him.
“The lifeguards brought him to the surface and immediately administered lifesaving measures,” said Constable Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer. “Emergency Health Services attended but ultimately lifesaving measures were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Della-Paolera said two out of three drowning victims know how to swim, according to the BC Boating Association.
