Burned vehicle victims in Okanagan may have link to fatal crash in Abbotsford
The discovery of two bodies in a burned-out vehicle in Summerland is being treated as a homicide investigation, and may be connected to a crash a day later that killed two people in the Lower Mainland.
The charred vehicle containing the bodies was found on Garnet Valley Road in Summerland Saturday, Aug. 6, with the Southeast District Major Crime Unit called in to investigate.
“Investigators now believe the two individuals in the vehicle died as a result of foul play, and a stolen vehicle was determined to be associated to this homicide,” a news release from BC RCMP stated.
On Sunday, Aug. 7, officers from the Abbotsford Police Department located a stolen vehicle, a 1991 White Acura Integra, which had been flagged as having a connection to the human remains found in the burned vehicle in Summerland, and officers made attempts to stop the vehicle.
“During the pursuit, the stolen vehicle lost control and crashed on Maclure Road, fatally injuring the male driver and female passenger. The Independent Investigations Office of BC has asserted jurisdiction and is now investigating,” said BC RCMP.
