Wind warning issued for Okanagan Connector, Coquihalla
Motorists are being warned of strong winds on the Okanagan Connector and Coquihalla Highway on Thursday (Oct. 27).
Environment Canada’s Thursday forecast shows southwest winds of 60 km/h, with gusts up to the 90 km/h mark, along the high elevation highways as a frontal system moves across the southwestern Interior.
The weather agency warns the system could produce strong crosswinds, bringing with it a potential for wind-related damage as loose objects could be tossed around and tree branches could fall on power lines.
It also stated the strong cross winds on the highways could create hazardous driving conditions.
Travellers are advised to check conditions and webcams on DriveBC and weather forecasts prior to travelling on the highways.
Environment Canada’s forecast stated the strong winds should begin blowing early Thursday morning, but begin to ease off by the afternoon.
