Hard-to-see pedestrian hit by vehicle, taken to hospital
RCMP is reminding people to dress to be seen after a pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Kelowna.
Mounties received a report of a male walking in the middle of Rutland Rd. near Old Vernon Rd. with vehicles swerving around him at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27.
Officers arrived on the scene and found the man had been struck by a passing vehicle and several members of the public, including the driver of the vehicle, were assisting with medical aid.
Paramedics were called to the scene, who tended to the unresponsive man. The RCMP say he appeared to have sustained serious injuries, and was taken to hospital in serious condition.
The driver was referred to Kelowna Victim Services, as police say he was “visibly shaken” by the event.
The man who had been hit was wearing dark clothing, making him difficult for motorists to see. The RCMP reminds anyone out walking after sunset to wear reflective clothing or carry a light with them to ensure they can be seen.
