Lottery win brings tears of joy for Okanagan resident
The Okanagan’s newest millionaire said he teared up when he found out he won a seven-figure lottery prize.
Malery Messer of Westbank (West Kelowna) was checking his ticket at the Walmart on Louie Drive when he discovered he won a $1 million guaranteed prize in the Oct. 15 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“I had tears in my eyes,” Messer said. “I couldn’t believe it and I could barely speak. I was too excited!”
The first person he shared the good news with was his wife.
“She was so shocked,” he said.
Messer is planning to use some of his prize to travel, with a trip to Hawaii first on the list, followed by an Alaskan cruise.
In addition to travel, Messer would like to donate some money to cancer research and will also share some with his family.
“This win means being able to do the things we’ve always dreamed of doing and being able to share it with family,” he added.
