Council seeks new deal for high-rise rental project
Kelowna council has rejected a housing agreement for a 25-storey high-rise being built on the old RCMP detachment site on Doyle.
The agreement for the purpose-built rental project suggested an ‘attainable rental rate’ of just over two-thousand dollars per month for 10 per cent of the 259 units.
Council voted unanimously not to sign the agreement, and the developer must come back to council with a revised agreement.
New hotel
A rezoning request was considered by Kelowna council for a five-storey, 48-unit hotel adjacent to the existing Super 8 motel at 2592 Hwy 97 North.
The rezoning application will allow for the development of the second hotel on-site.
Public hearing changes
Kelowna council agreed to a procedural change during public hearings, allowing the public to have their say earlier in the meeting.
Starting at the January 17, 2023 public hearing, staff will present first, followed by the applicant followed by the public.
The applicant will then have 10 minutes to address public questions, then city council will ask questions.
