RCMP seek person of interest in suspicious death

The BC RCMP is asking the public to be on the lookout for Michael Mawley, who is a person of interest in a suspicious death investigation in the Kootenays.

Human remains were located after a suspicious fire on Nov. 19, 2022, in the community of Kingsgate at Mawley’s family residence.

Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity in that area to police.

Mounties are also requesting any dash cam or video footage from that area on Nov. 19 between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. MST.

Mawley’s current whereabouts are unknown, however he has ties to British Columbia, Alberta and Idaho.

He is described as:

Caucasian male
Brown hair
Brown eyes
5’10
150 lbs

“If Michael hears, or sees this call for information, we ask him to contact the police of jurisdiction,” Insp. Brent Novakoski of the BC RCMP Major Crime Section, Southeast District, said.

Should you encounter Mawley, do not approach him and immediately call 911.
