Extreme cold warning lifted, snowfall warning issued
Environment Canada ended the extreme cold warning for the North and Central Okanagan Thursday evening, but then issued a snowfall warning.
The weather agency said a Pacific frontal system is moving from the coast to the Okanagan, and while it will push away the cold air that has settled over the Okanagan, it is also expected to bring significant snow.
Environment Canada said the snow, which will be heavy at times, will begin Thursday night and continue though Friday.
A total of 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is expected in the North Okanagan, including Vernon, by the end of Friday.
A snowfall warning had not been issued for the Central Okanagan as of 5:30 p.m. Thursday, with snowfall amounts in that area forecast for 2 to 4 cms overnight and another 10 cms Friday.
People are advised to monitor weather forecasts and to check road conditions at DriveBC prior to getting behind the wheel as the rapidly accumulating snow may cause travel difficulties.
