City seeks funds to upgrade event stage

The City of Kelowna will apply for a provincial grant to refurbish Island Stage in Waterfront Park.

The stage was constructed in the early 1990’s on a small man-made lagoon accessible via two suspended concrete walkways. Though one of Kelowna’s premier event spaces, the facility has several constraints and functional issues.

City staff will apply for a grant through B.C.’s Destination Development Fund and, if successful, will go towards upgrades to increase spectator capacity and event space; improve accessibility and safety features, and improve space for functional operations and logistics.
