Veteran MLA calling it quits
Norm Letnick has announced he won’t be running in the next provincial election, scheduled for 2024.
The four-term MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country said the recent approval of the new electoral boundaries, was a factor in his decision.
“With the addition of a fourth Kelowna riding, I believe this is a good time to encourage new people to step forward and compete for the challenge and privilege of representing Kelowna and Lake Country voters in the B.C. Legislature,” Letnick said in a statement.
Under the changes, the Kelowna-Lake Country riding will add the District of Coldstream for the 2024 vote.
The 66-year-old Letnick was first elected for the Liberals in the riding in 2009 taking over from Al Horning. The party recently changed its named to BC United.
“Until the next election, I will continue to work hard to fulfill the campaign commitments I made in 2020, and I will continue to support Kevin Falcon and the BC United team as an MLA,” Letnick stated.
“Together, we have accomplished a lot but there is much more work to be done. I intend to continue serving our community in a non-elected capacity after the next election, especially in the area of entry-level housing.”
Letnick, a former business instructor at Okanagan College, concluded his statement by thanking his constituents for their ongoing support.
