B.C.’s average weekly pay declined in February
British Columbians were taking home less pay in February.
Statistics Canada reports the seasonally adjusted average weekly earnings, including overtime, in B.C. was $1,175.13 in February.
That was down $4.91 from the $1,180.04 in January of 2023.
However, the average take-home in B.C. was up $21.56 from February 2022’s $1,153.57.
The data collection agency did not provide information on average weekly earnings for regions or cities.
B.C.’s average weekly earnings in February was the sixth highest in Canada after the Northwest Territories ($1,595.84), Nunavut ($1,569.23), Yukon ($1,341.03) Alberta ($1,258.93) and Ontario ($1,210.03).
Prince Edward Island had the lowest weekly earning average at $1,082.87 in February.
StatsCan reported the national average weekly earnings in February was $1,176.89, which was down from January’s average of $1,185.39 but up from February 2022’s of $1,155.53.
The data was based on Statistics Canada’s monthly Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours.
