Drive BC said Highway 1 between Chase and Sorrento reopened to vehicles at 10 a.m.
The highway closed one week ago due to the Bush Creek East wildfire and drivers have been having to use Highway 97 and Highways 97A or Highway 97B as alternative routes.
“The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has been working closely with response agencies, monitoring wildfire risk and activity along the corridor, and supporting evacuation orders. Crews are also working to clear side roads adversely affected by wildfire,” a news release from the Ministry of Transportation stated.
While the roadway through the Shuswap has reopened, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District reminds travelers that multiple communities in the area remain on evacuation order.
