The Okanagan Basin is no longer at the highest drought level possible.
The B.C. River Forecast Centre dropped the Okanagan’s rating from Level 5 to Level 4 on Thursday, Oct. 5.
Level 4 indicates that adverse impacts from the conditions are still likely, though not “almost certain” as they are in Level 5.
The water basins surrounding the Okanagan were also brought down from Level 5 to 4 Thursday. In total there were 12 water basins in B.C. rated at Level 4, all of of which were located in the Southern or Central Interior.
Nine of B.C.’s 34 water basins were still rated at Level 5, all of which were concentrated in the northern half of the province.
The only Level 0 and Level 1 drought conditions were within basins in the northeast of B.C.
