RCMP search for truck involved in ramming incident
RCMP in Kelowna are looking for a pickup truck that rammed a police cruiser and was seen driving recklessly around the city.
On Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 6:55 p.m., officers with the Kelowna RCMP were made aware of a Dodge pickup truck parked in a mall parking lot with two individuals who appeared to be intoxicated and sleeping inside.
Both the truck and the license plate where soon confirmed to be stolen
“Officers were able to locate the truck, and while attempting to stop and speak with the occupants, the truck suddenly backed up, then accelerated forward and collided with the front of the patrol vehicle, resulting in damage to the police vehicle,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera stated.
The truck then fled the scene, and the RCMP received multiple reports throughout the night that the truck was driving recklessly. Due to concerns for public safety, the RCMP could not engage in a pursuit.
“This was a highly volatile and dangerous situation, and we are grateful that neither our officer nor any member of the public was injured as a result of the actions of these individuals,” Della-Paolera said.
RCMP are actively searching for the grey 2008 Dodge D2500 pickup truck with possible body damage. The truck was displaying BC license plate G89876.
If people see the truck, they are urged not approach it, but instead call 911 and reference Kelowna RCMP file number 2023-60776.
