Suspect in downtown assault arrested
Police apprehended a man involved in an assault in downtown Kelowna Wednesday evening.
At approximately 7:20 p.m. Nov. 8, RCMP responded to a disturbance at the intersection of Bernard Ave. and Ethel St. after receiving a report of a male and female in an altercation. The man was reportedly wielding a torch and threatening to harm the woman.
Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the male suspect, and then found out the woman had been allegedly stabbed during the fight.
The woman was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the man and woman knew each other.
The male was charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats and breach of probation. He remained in custody and is due to appear in court on Nov. 16.
