Highway 97 near Summerland to close temporarily for rock blasting
Highway 97 between Peachland and Summerland will be temporarily closed as more work is planned at the site of summer rockslide.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said crews will be conducting blasting at the site in the Central Okanagan from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30.
The highway will be closed while the work is done, and will reopen when the work and safety assessments are completed.
The province said Highway 97 in the area of the August 28th rock slide will be maintained with two lanes open throughout the winter.
The detour route on 201 Forest Service Road will also be maintained until further notice, though the province advises travelers use the highway. People who do use the detour route should be prepared with good winter tires, as well as extra food, water and fuel.
