The cause of a fire at a Kelowna outdoor encampment is being treated as suspicious.
Kelowna Regional Fire Dispatch received multiple reports of a large tent fire near the downtown Rail Trail in the 800 block of Weddell Place around 1 a.m. Thursday.
The first arriving officer reported a large tent fire spreading quickly, and crews were able to quickly knock down the flames.
One tent was completely destroyed with two neighboring tents damaged.
There were no injuries to residents or firefighters.
“The fire is considered suspicious and is under investigation,” Captain Scott Clarke said.
The Kelowna Fire Department responded with two engines and a command unit including nine fire personnel.
RCMP and the BC Ambulance Service were at the scene as well.
