Reports say 93-year-old woman pushed into path of bus
Police in Penticton are looking for any witnesses to an assault that they say could have been deadly.
Mounties say a 93-year-old woman was reportedly pushed into the path of a moving transit bus as it left a bus stop, by a woman who was passing by with a cart full of belongings.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. on June 5 near Calgary Avenue and Main Street.
The elderly woman suffered minor injuries and is resting at home.
Const. Kelly Brett, media relations officer, said witnesses to the event stepped in to help the victim, but were unable to detain the female suspect before police arrived.
“This is a very concerning incident that could have led to fatal results given the elderly woman’s age and physical capabilities,” Brett said. “We are thankful that the bus driver was cognizant that something had occurred and was able to stop the bus prior to anything serious happening.”
Police are asking any witnesses to the incident to contact them as they investigate.
Anyone with information is — or who has dash-cam video — is asked to contact the Penticton RCMP and speak to Const. Gary Sande at 250-492-4300.
