Drugs and weapon seized during traffic stop in Lake Country
A routine traffic stop in Lake Country led to RCMP seizure of drugs, a weapon and cash.
On June 27, officers in Lake Country pulled over to inspect a vehicle without valid insurance that was stopped on Woodsdale Road near Lodge Road.
Officers approached the vehicle and found evidence of drug consumption, and also spotted a prohibited weapon.
The driver and passenger were arrested at the scene, and the RCMP said a search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, as well as a loaded .45 calibre semi-auto pistol and approximately $2,500 in Canadian currency.
The RCMP released the two individuals from custody pending approval of charges.
“This is an example of the excellent proactive enforcement being conducted by Lake Country officers in our community,” Cpl. Ryder Birtwistle, acting Detachment Commander and Media Liaison for Lake Country RCMP, said.
“We know the overdose crisis is not unique to the streets of any one town or city and police will continue to target and investigate those adding to the toxic drug supply.”
