Okanagan drivers are seeing higher fuel prices this morning as costs continue to climb across the region.
In Vernon, the average price for a litre of regular fuel soared to $2.04.9 Tuesday, May 5. That marked a 21 cent increase from the previous day’s average.
At some Kelowna stations, prices jumped overnight from about $1.80.9 to an average of $2.06.9 a litre.
These sudden increases add to already tight commuting budgets for Okanagan residents and visitors.
Recent federal tax changes are unlikely to bring meaningful relief, with some analysts describing the impact as “a few cents” in a market still driven by global supply pressures and volatility.
For now, experts say drivers should expect prices to remain elevated in the short term.
Though prices spiked, the fuel price tracking website GasBuddy said they remained below the all-time highs of $2.16.9 in Vernon and $2.18.9 in Kelowna, both set in June of 2022.
