It’s not every day that I can help a woman escape from getting hit by a car.
11am – 12:43pm: Kelowna Cycle (2949 Pandosy St)
In the heart of Pandosy Village, I started my day. After playing some “music-car chairs” in the parking lot with Corey from Kelowna Cycle (I know; a second Corey!), the 103 minutes to qualify for the new Jeep Wrangler began like every other.
And then it happened: a reckless driver buzzed my table!
Cyclist Linda, wearing her bright orange high-visibility bike-wear, was filling out an Entry Form. Suddenly, I hear the sound of metal dragging on pavement. I look to my left and see a car squeezing by Kelowna Cycle’s tent, and driving over my Beach Radio flag stand! I pulled Linda’s writing arm toward me, in case this dummy’s mirror was going to clip us! He stopped only because we made such a loud commotion, but he didn’t say anything, or even gesture. He was up there in years, but I don’t know what I would prefer: he to not have noticed Linda, or that he was so impatient he could wait for the other car to clear out the parking lot and then he wouldn’t have had to squeeze by! It was a close call, and I am thankful Linda was able to shake it off! (also, they’ll make you a buzz-worthy coffee here!)
