Corey’s “Free Ride” Blog: Opening

Two types of Opening today; Grand and Garage Door.  I feel like that could be a Jeopardy question.  Or answer.  Clue?  Nevermind, I ruined it.  Please read on.

11am – 12:43pm: Freshii – Landmark District (1717 Harvey Ave.)
Did you know that Freshii was founded by Canadian Matthew Corrin, and now boasts nearly 500 stores in 17 countries?  That’s amazing, especially since it seems like it’s a new restaurant.  It’s not! It’s been around for 15 years!  But Freshii in the Landmark District has NOT been around 15 years.  It’s brand new, and owner Sukh has to be feeling great about the longevity of his new Freshii spot, because it was BUMPIN’ today!  Listeners were flocking to me to enter to win the Jeep, and over half of them already knew that if they had the Freshii app downloaded on their phone, they were going to get a free entree while Beach Radio was on location!
There is no skill-testing question on the Entry Forms, but often I’ll joke that remembering your phone number is the skill-test.  One woman had a very smart method of double-checking; she just looked at her dog’s collar!  How cute!

3 – 4:43pm: Canada West Garage Doors (1641 Commerce Ave.)
As we wind down the contest, I reflect back on my three visits (on average) to each business (or franchise).  I can say that Canada West Garage Doors three Jeep stops all had weather in the 30º range; I know this because inside CWGD is so nicely air conditioned, that most of the contest goers would remark about how nice it is inside the business when they returned outside!  One of our lucky contestants is also going to win a new wifi-enabled garage door opener!  At first I didn’t understand why a wifi-enabled garage door would make a difference, but I get it now! You get reminders when you’ve left the door open, easily manage who can access your garage, get notifications to your cell phone whenever the door is used, and set rules for automatic opening and closing.  So it’s added security!  Got a friend who’s borrowing some tools or car but you’re not home? Boom! Wifi garage door.
Honourable mention to Mike, who drove up in a Jeep Cherokee that had recently seen some offroading.  The windows were so caked in mud that he had to roll them down to see; just run it through the car wash, Mike!  I would love to see our Jeep all caked up in mud as well.
