RCMP are working alongside Kelowna International Airport officials to investigate a suspicious item found on board an empty aircraft.
Police were notified of the item on a empty WestJet plane that was being prepared for departure.
“Airport officials evacuated the aircraft as a precaution and called in emergency crews,” stated Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of Kelowna RCMP. “Although police do not believe the item poses a threat, RCMP plan to conduct a precautionary search of the aircraft to ensure public safety.”
YLW officials say airport operations are not being impacted by the ongoing police investigation.

Emergency crews were out in force at Kelowna International Airport this afternoon.
Officials say YLW was notified of a possible suspicious item on board a WestJet flight departing from the airport at 2:06 p.m.
“As a safety precaution, emergency crews were dispatched to respond to the incident. The threat was deemed non-credible and normal operations of the airport have resumed,” said Jessica Hewitt, Communications Advisor, with Kelowna International Airport.
No other details have been released.
