Fire captain remembered
A public line-of-duty death procession and funeral service honouring Captain Joseph (Joe) Kolar will take place Friday, Nov. 15, at Trinity Baptist Church on Springfield Road in Kelowna.
To accommodate the procession, a road closure will be in effect on Nov. 15 from noon until 1 p.m. on Springfield Road between Cooper and Spall roads.
For the safety of participants and those watching the procession, there will be no access to or from businesses, parking lots or properties along this section of Springfield Road during the procession. Access to Springfield Road from Bredin, Ambrosi and Barlee roads will also be unavailable during this time.
Once all uniformed members are safely off the roadway, Springfield Road will be reopened to vehicle traffic as soon as possible. The City thanks residents and businesses for their understanding and support as Capt. Kolar is honoured.
Capt. Kolar passed away Oct. 31, 2019 after a courageous battle with lung cancer attributed to his work as a 29-year firefighter.
The service will begin at 1 p.m., before which time uniformed personnel will march from Mission Creek Alliance Church (2091 Springfield Road) along Springfield Road to Trinity Baptist Church.
The public is invited to line the processional route along Springfield Road and are asked to be in place prior to 12:15 p.m.
