Snow amounts vary around area
There was new snow overnight which is creating issues on the roads, and at the Kelowna Airport today.
Unofficial estimates indicate between 7 and 25 centimetres fell around the Okanagan since Monday, with Kelowna at the low end and West Kelowna at the upper end of the amounts.
A travel advisory is in effect for the Coquihalla between Merritt and Hope with limited visibility due to heavy snowfall and blowing snow.
“Travelers are advised to exercise caution if considering travel and to be prepared for extreme weather conditions. Motorists should expect delays through the storm while crews and equipment clear snow,” DriveBC said.
DriveBC has also announced the Coquihalla will be closed in both directions Wednesday (Jan. 8) between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. between Merritt and Hope for avalanche control work.
Kelowna International Airport is reporting some delays in arrivals and departures, but no cancellations at this point.
