Pedestrian dies after being hit by delivery van
An 88-year-old woman has died of her injuries in hospital after being hit by a delivery vehicle while walking in Kelowna.
The incident happened at Highway 33 and Dougall Road around 9:45 this morning.
“When officers arrived, they discovered a cube style van had struck a pedestrian near the intersection,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy. “The pedestrian, an 88-year-old female, was transported by the BC Ambulance Service to hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The scene of the crash was closed for several hours for processing but has since re-opened. Investigators are currently in the midst of trying to identify potential witnesses and canvassing the area for video surveillance in an effort to determine what caused the collision.”
Police say the cause is under investigation, but drugs and alcohol were not factors.
“We are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and speak with us,” Noseworthy added.
