Ten people taken into custody in drug trafficking sweep
Illegal drugs, prohibited devices and stolen property were seized after police executed a search warrant at a residence in Kelowna’s Rutland area.
Community Safety Unit officers were at a property in the 400 block of Hein Road Feb. 28.
The warrant was related to an active criminal investigation into suspected drug trafficking in the area.
“In February of this year, Community Safety Unit officers initiated an investigation into drug trafficking involving a residence on Hein Road,” stated Cpl. Stuart Smith of the Kelowna RCMP. “During the search, police seized a quantity of suspected illicit drugs, including heroin, crack cocaine,
methamphetamine, GHB, and codeine.”
In addition to the drugs, police seized stolen property including several bicycles, a dirt-bike, and license plates. Prohibited items including body armour, a firearm magazine, and a switchblade were also seized.
Ten people were initially taken into custody during the execution of the search warrant, including two who had unrelated outstanding warrants for their arrest.
Smith said the matter will be submitted to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada for consideration of charges.
