How To Politely End Your Video Call

You’ve probably had more video calls in the past month than all of 2019 (or for some of us, ever!).
But since eyes are on you, you can’t make up a bogus reason to get off a drawn-out call… after all, it’s nice to chat!
Here are some suggestions of sentences you can say to expedite your exit from the call, but it comes with a caveat:
You must be motivated with your approach. Some conversations are difficult to find a exit point – especially if there is a slight delay – so you must be committed to state your desire to hang up, and stick with it!
- “Well, I want to get outside before the Sun goes down.” No one is going to keep you from going outside, this one is easy.
- “Well, I’ve got some chores to do.” Laundry, dishes, vacuuming, ironing… the possibilities are there, just commit.
- “Well, I’ve got another video call on my schedule.” Quite possible, even if it’s 6 hours away, it’s technically true.
- “Well, it was good talking with you.” Sincerity always works, and signals the end of the call. Setting up another call in the future also sells that you need to go.
Good luck!
